Saw The Sun Of The Quince on Sunday, a two hour movie about the painter Antonio López García (and his friend Enrique Gran, a painter-ex-cartoonist). It was a tad dull, not much happened except him working on his painting of a quince tree, but I love the slowness, I love things that change my perspective even if just for the duration of a movie and a short time afterwards.

I think in the autumn I guessed book 2 will end sometime in early February. My best estimate now is March 5th. I think I have each of the final strips planned out, but you never know which ones will need more than one strip to cover their content once I write them down.

Having fun reading romance novels lately, studying (and really enjoying) the form. You can follow my reading (which is mostly audiobooks) over on my Goodreads account. (Although I’m currently reading “The Book of Three” from Lloyd Alexander’s Prydain series, inspired by Jenn and Kips‘ charming Taran Jack).

Racquetball continues. No collapse, heart-attack, or injuries (touch wood). It has inspired me to take up the gauntlet of granola bar making for my after-racquetball snack (batch is in the over right now). Yum!

And segue here, my friend Dan just posted a new recipe over at cookrookery for cold meat pie, inspired by Roald Dahl’s “Danny The Champion of the World” (one of my favorite novels by him). I just find Dan’s passion for food, curiosity for life, and amazing writing style compelling to no end. I also can’t wait: he’s finishing up a novel which, for the first time, he plans to release maybe this spring. And when he does, I’ll let you know.

My friend-and-often-collaborator Mike Peterson had some nice words to say about me in his really good daily blog on comics comicstripoftheday.com. I’m more mentioning this because it’s an excellent blog than the fact that he mentions me.

So. There you go. The big bad secret about spacetrawlers. The shadow behind the title.

And by coincidence this is the 200th page (if you count the double lead-in strip as two separate pages, don’t include the awesome guest strip by Alan Ryan of Faraday The Blob, but do include the auto-bio intro strip and the book review strip I did over at Unshelved… it’s all such fuzzy math). So, yeah. Wow. I try not to think about it because it makes my head melt, but, um, yay.

Let’s see. Oh, Holiday cards are now available — and they’re awesome. Order them now so you have time to send them (along with some books, totes, and tees for gifts to go with the cards).

It was a nice week, although difficult to keep up on work. My sister (and her dog) just moved from Alaska to California, and stopped overnight on her way through. We were delighted (perhaps our cats less-so). I painted a little. Worked on some freelance stuff. Drew a couple pieces for an art show. We even went to a birthday party. Never a dull moment.

Sad to hear the Russian Mars probe went offline. That’s totally gotta’ suck. But don’t worry, just watch this and enjoy a relaxing bliss instead…

I went and saw “Gainsbourg” this weekend, which I was pretty excited about. Joann Sfar who did The Rabbi’s Cat and Vampire Loves, has inspired me greatly both in writing and drawing, and so when I saw he had written and directed a movie about pop icon Serge Gainsbourg, I was just waiting for it to arrive here in Seattle. I have to say, it had good and bad, and I preferred the first half to the second, but it was a fascinating watch overall and I was not disappointed.

Let’s see, next convention (going backwards) was InterventionCon in Maryland/DC area. Likely the most heart-felt con of the year (which I am hoping to go back to), put on by the duo of webcomic creator/illustrator Onezumi Hartstein and web developer James Harknell. And it was so strange and delightful, a lot of old-school webcartoonists were there: Bill Holbrook of Kevin and Kell, Peter Abraams of Sluggy Freelance, Shaenon Garrity and Jeffery Wells of Skin Horse (and Narbonic), and Jennie Breedon of The Devil’s Panties.

Also, I was on a really fun panel with Tony DiGerolamo about freelance work. He writes for the Simpsons as well as writes the webcomic Super Frat and is part of the the Site the Webcomics Factory.
