It’s an interesting thing, death in Science Fiction. With technology so advanced, if  the author wants to make sure the reader won’t think the character will be brought back to life, the author can’t just shoot or dismember the character, the character really needs to be disintegrated.

We won’t even TALK about cloning.

Last week Tom pointed out in the comments, and then Gary blogged it at Fleen, that I have indeed hit the 100 strip mark. Not sure exactly when, for some reason the WordPress numbers don’t quite match my own records. And then I forgot to announce it. But yes! 100 strips. I so deserve a drink.

I just found out that J.J. McCullough did charicatures of cartoonists who tabled at NEWW. Um…. unfair, but perhaps totally correct.

The first panel of this strip is somewhat of a flash-back to panel panel #9 from an early strip where Nogg was describing how horribly wrong things went at the G.O.B.

Did you know that scientists have discovered how to turn skin cells into blood cells? Frikkin’ awesome news, especially for those with rare blood types. A tad creepy, as are all things biological, and I could see it being written about freakily (and probably incorrectly) in horror stories. And thus the world turns. Hell, if I wrote horror stories, I’d do it myself.

Lastly, the form-to-nominate is up for the “Webcomics List Awards,” and there happens to be a category for “best new comic.” I’m just sayin’…..

It’s been an draining week. Our cat, Girlie has relapsed and been getting more and more ill, and after several vet visits we still have no idea what is wrong with her. But we keep keeping on. I took Beth to see Bach cello on Saturday, to get her mind off things a bit.

Otherwise, things continue as normal. Mike Peterson released 3 teaser chapters for our newest newspaper serial “Hootch” which you can see at teachup.com (and ask your local newspaper to run!). His site also has multiple other works I’ve drawn for his stories). Also, this week, I drew part of the cover for Spacetrawler book#1 (due hopefully in early 2011). In the news, the usual, Robot cars and possible culprit of bees dying. And lastly, a lovely piece of art:

I live in Seattle, and am not at PAX. But tweets seem to indicate that people are having fun. Mike, Jerry, and Scott announced an upcoming comic The Trenches. Video Games were played.

On a final note, the robot exoskeletons in today’s strip were based on a doodle I did quite a few years back for the intended amusement of Bill Mudron.

Yesterday I went roller skating with Beth. It was a crisp late summer day, and as she skated farther, I spent a lovely time resting on a dock, barefoot.

Thanks to E3E for the recommendation on the Runner’s World forums. When bad rears it’s ugly head, here at Spacetrawler it’s our core philosophy: RUN. Run like hell.

Now I just have to figure out how to weave “free-style space yachting” into the comic.

For those who don’t recognize it, Emily is using a laserblade. Nogg mentions the device once and then is shown using it once (view the laserblade tag).

Summer has arrived in Seattle. It’s been damp and chill here all year, so this means very nice summer temperatures (and not boiling like the east coast, sorry guys!) I modified the bird feeder to keep the sparrows from tossing the seeds around willy nilly. We planted more tomatoes, I was chosen to wield the shovel. Why? WHY?!

I spoke on the phone with my friend, Kevin Moore, who is examining the greater questions of comics: what, how, why, why bother, etc. To me it’s always come down to “what.” I love creating things, it’s almost a compulsion. My energies are constantly like an arrow pulled back in the bow, the only question ever is what target this time.

I generally pose the question to myself as this: if I was wealthy and didn’t have to do another day’s work in my life, would I still create? Yes. Okay, so if that is the case, what would I create under those circumstances? And that is kinda how I determine my projects.

Anyhow. Ramble ramble ramble.

Had a lovely week, and it’s 11:45 and I’m just uploading the strip, 15 minutes to go.

A good week. On Thursday I wrote a 5,200 word sci-fi/horror short story, which was very exciting. I love playing with ideas. Discussed scripts with Tom over at Marooned. Started work on a new MAD Magazine assignment I got. Good times.

Beth and I saw a very silly 4th of July parade from a bar window with Dan and Leslie. Later, I went to potluck and made an apply pie with granny smiths (oh, and a few days ago I made both pizza and Southern Red Velvet cake from scratch). Beth and I then watched the fireworks from a half dozen towns, including the Seattle finale, on our drive home (nice timing!)

And then today’s strip (and Wednesday’s) have just kicked me up and down the street. Building the bikes and backgrounds and piecing it all together. A grueling pleasure, but a very very good grueling pleasure. :)

Not a lot of blog in me today, no doubt I’m resting after Monday’s generous supply.

I like today’s strip. The action of Tornitus 6 is finally coming to head. And I’d like to think that it’s possibly up there in the “pretty zone” with two of my favorite comics, Dicebox and Family Man.
