I have to start in on con reports, although 4 in a row kinda is daunting. And so… not today.

But huge. HUGE! I mean, they are asking other labs to double-check first, but the finding: neutrinos can travel faster than light. Amazing. Even breathtaking. I mean, it’s no greased dark light speed, but what is?

Of course, I’ve read some articles saying that it shows we can travel back in time, and I’m just not yet buying that. I mean, already we’ve found that on the atomic level things don’t confirm to normal physics in other ways. but whatever, who knows. It’s still frikkin’ amazing.

SPX Small Press Expo!

For me, it’s been insane here getting ready for this month long trip (East coast and San Fran conventions). The strip is drawn on large paper and hard to transport (let alone the scanner) so I can’t bring much with me except for computer work (which is mostly just coloring), but I think I’m going to manage it with zero interruptions of the strip. yay!

Today’s strip was really fun to draw. Including laying out panel 4 to mimic the image of Brograhm’s actual teeth from this strip (panel 7).

I withdrew the Purfin T-shirt. After 24 hours there were still zero sales, and that was too slow a start. I’m trying very hard to provide merch, but I also need to meet some minimum order numbers to even break even. My current rule on tees are I need at least 20 orders to do a print run, and if I get zero orders in the first day, I pull it. That said, a couple people asked me to re-tool the design, and I’m playing with it. Nothing satisfactory yet.

So, you may notice I have a new banner up there (below the strip/above the blog). Here are the bullet points.

  • You can now buy a POSTER of ANY strip in the archive. They are all set up and ready to go. Email me if any of the links are wrong or broken and I will fix them.
  • For those wanting a HIGH QUALITY SIGNED PRINT which will last a lifetime, MAKE SURE when ordering one that you indicate over at Paypal which one you’ve ordered, or else I’ll have to email you and squeeze the info out of you. These strips will usually take up to a week between when you order them and when I get them in the mail due to the fact that I have to get them printed, pick them up, sign them, and ship them.
  • If you wish to buy the original artwork for the strips, two things: ONE, a while ago I lowered the price to encourage purchasing, but this didn’t work and I kept getting emails requesting prints: so they’d be in color, be frameable, and be more affordable. Now that this is an option, I will be raising the price of originals (in a couple weeks) up to $100. So, if you wanted one at $80, now is your chance. TWO, you may notice that I haven’t been posting the originals for sale, this is basically because I stopped hand-lettering them. So, if you wish any recent originals which have not been posted for sale, email me, and if it’s available, I’ll sell it to you and letter it for $100.

So, please consider ordering a print or two. Who could resist?:

This weekend I’ll be down in Portland for the Stumptown Comic Fest, tabling with my great friend Kevin (who has a zine out of his comic Wanderlost. Yay!) The fest is April 16 & 17 at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, OR. See their site for details and ticket info($7 one day, $12 weekend pass). As you can see, I’m working on a webpage re-design. My main first goal was to upgrade WordPress and Comicpress, which I managed to get done and it seems to function (thanks to Corey for help on the WordPress). Next is to actually work on making it all more navigable. We’ll see how that goes. Still (always) open to ideas.

If you haven’t done so yet, make sure to check out Snowflakes where I have been illustrating the dialogue and story by Zach Weiner and James Ashby (and drawing from the characters designed by Chris Jones). Monday and Wednesday will be my last two strips for the fill-in. Check it out!

Also, Erika Moen (Dar) and Jeff Parker have a new comic out called Bucko. Self-dubbed “a dick and fart joke murder-mystery.” So be sure to check that out.

If this feels a bit like some re-cap, that’s because it is. I am doing some minor re-cap of character and story because not only is this an ongoing webcomic, but I’m also collecting it in separate books with somewhat standalone plots (although the entire thing is one big story). Okay, nipped that question in the bud.

Hello new readers from SMBC (“Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal” to those unfamiliar, a very funny comic)! And thanks Zach for the link. :)

Speaking of Zach, I am still doing M-W-F fill-in strips for Snowflakes, and really enjoying drawing their fun characters, so check that out.

Also, if you haven’t heard, Chris Hallbeck of The Book of Biff has a new comic out Maximumble. Looks awesome, Chris!

I did hear back from my printer, Spacetrawler Book #1 is scheduled to be shipped from them February 2nd if all goes smoothly. So, expect that to go up for sale hopefully in early-to-mid February. Exxxxxcitement! :)

Also on the Spacetrawler frontier, CWCobalt left a comment last Wednesday on a strip he purchased. For those of you unaware, the original artwork for any strip can be bought for a MERE eighty bucks (info below each strip). But don’t listen to me, read his comment…

“Hey Chris, I’m the guy who bought this wonderful piece of original art. One of your best strips, I think, due to the dynamic composition and dramatic angles. Scans don’t do your original work justice — the sepia tones, brushwork and even the lettering are a joy to see in detail. It will look wonderful (and inspiring) nicely framed on the wall in my studio. And a VERY fair price for such a great piece. I am a happy camper. Looking forward to your book! Onward to Book 2!”
